Title: The One
Author: John MarrsWhat I enjoyed about this book: The compilation of stories was interesting and even though I found certain narratives more compelling, the twists and turns of every section made this an amazing read (especially the cop x serial killer narrative)!
Title: Iron Widow
Author: Xiran Jay ZhaoWhat I enjoyed bout this book: Soooooo much! The world building in particular with the mashup up Imperial Chinese history and futuristic sci-fi was incredible. The main character was compelling and likeable. What originally felt like a love triangle that turns into a polyamorous relationship is so damn good. AND THE TWIST AT THE END!!
Title: The Ex-Girlfriends Murder Club
Author: Gloria ChaoWhat I enjoyed about this book: It was fun! A great summer read with the twists and turns of a typical whodunnit but with a side of silly romcom shennanigans.
Title: A Dowry of Blood
Author: S.T. GibsonWhat I enjoyed about this book: Aside from being about vampires, this story reads like a poem. The prose is so melodic and heart wrenching in the best way possible. The polyamory was a plus and the violence was done in such a way that it almost felt romantic or sensual. Excellent short read!
Title: Love, Mom
Author: Iliana XanderWhat I enjoyed about this book: I never once knew exactly where it was going! While I could parse out some of the information for myself, the story took unexpected and dark twists. What an incredibly well written psychological mystery!
Title: Shield of Sparrows
Author: Devney PerryWhat I enjoyed about this book: While this is marketed as a "romantasy" book, the story focuses much more on the action adventure with the romance being a slow burn and taking a backseat to the rest of the narrative. The characters are well written with distinct personalities and the mysteries surrounding the monsters is intriguing. Very much looking forward to the sequel coming out later this year!
